The Elementary Community

Within the spacious and comfortable setting of our Elementary Classroom you may see ...

A 6-year-old is coloring the flags of countries from one of the continents and labeling the countries names, while his friend researches the North American biome, focusing his attention on the fundamental needs of people through the centuries.

A 7-year-old is using The Trinomial Cube, a 3D model of an algebraic formula to solve an abstract problem; her friend is working on the timeline of life. He takes a quick break to look over the shoulder of his friend who is coloring and labeling a model of the Clock of Eras.

An 8-year-old is writing a story about life in a medieval castle, while two other friends are making sure that the 3D model of the oxygen molecule, they have been working on all week has the proper number of protons and electrons.

A 9-year-old is giving a lesson in long division to a 6year old.

A team of kids of all ages is searching for landforms on the globe by a set of given longitude and latitude coordinates and labeling them on their map.

They gather in circle for Ms. Shah’s fascinating and captivating group lessons! Cosmic Education is the foundation of the Montessori Philosophy because it tells the story of the interconnectedness of all things and inspires the child to discover their place in this world! Cosmic education aims to allow the holistic development of the whole person within the context of the universe. It also introduces the possibility that humanity might have a greater cosmic task to create a better world for future generations because it is the children who will be creating the future.

The kids always look forward to Ms. Shah’s Friday Science experiments! The best way to understand science is through fun, engaging and curiosity sparking hands on experiments!

"Let us give the child a vision of the whole universe. The universe is an imposing reality, and an answer to all questions. We shall walk together on this path of life, for all things are part of the universe, and connected with each other to form one whole unity.” ~ Maria Montessori

These are just a few sparks of joy observed at a certain time. Some children learn with the speed of Light while others take their time! We are trained to meet the needs of 6-year-old ready to solve algebraic problems and help an 8-year-old still learning to read fluently.

In the backyard, the adventures continue as a group of kids observe a busy bee’s legs all covered in blobs of heavy red pollen from the garden of nectar shrubs and flowers, they planted a few weeks ago. Others peek in the watering cans hanging on the fence – some have become the home of a mother finch and her 4 little eggs. Sometimes the kids just sit on the steps observing the two baby hummingbirds in the tiny nest, other times they are playing games and spreading cheer and laughter in the air or building animal habitats with rocks, sticks, leaves, seashells, and berries! The “Bluebonnet Café” menu changes every month. It is run by the kids with a chef, servers and cashiers and is such a delightful way to apply math skills! They run and play the games they created by themselves! They garden with joy, determination and intention: herbs for Mother’s day, potatoes, peas and beans to apply their botany lessons, nectar plants for the pollinators and milkweed grown from seeds for the migrating Monarchs!
